The acquisition of the SaaS access management firm will boost 1Password’s capabilities around discovery of unsanctioned IT usage, the company says.

1Password said that its acquisition of SaaS access management company Trelica, announced Tuesday, will boost its capabilities around the discovery of unsanctioned IT usage.

The terms of 1Password’s acquisition of Trelica were not disclosed.

Founded in 2018, Trelica has focused on enabling the discovery of previously unknown applications being used in the workplace, as well as on providing improved management of access to the apps.

The capabilities are critical for reducing the incidence of “shadow IT,” 1Password said in a news release.

Trelica’s technology brings more than 300 SaaS integrations, enabling automation for discovery and access management around app usage in the workplace, 1Password said.

The deal for Trelica is the first major acquisition for 1Password since the company debuted its new Extended Access Management platform in the spring of 2024.

The acquisition also comes amid the continuing wave of cybersecurity vendor consolidation, which included a surge of M&A activity in 2024. Key factors have included growing customer demand for unified security platforms as well as budgetary and staffing considerations.
