Anthropic deepens push into financial services

Dive Brief:

  • Anthropic released agent templates for financial services work this week, which target time-consuming parts of financial services, such as building pitchbooks, screening know-your-customer files and closing the books at month-end. It follows releases focused on the healthcare and legal sectors from Anthropic earlier this year, a sign the company is zeroing in on specific verticals as it expands its enterprise AI push.
  • The AI company also partnered with private equity firms Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman and Goldman Sachs this week in the formation of a new AI services company aimed at scaling Claude across hundreds of enterprises.
  • Anthropic’s CFO Krishna Rao said in a statement that enterprise demand for Claude is outpacing any single delivery model. “This new firm brings additional operating capability to the ecosystem and capital from leading alternative asset managers,” he said.

Dive Insight:

As AI providers Anthropic and OpenAI target enterprise customers ahead of their upcoming IPOs, Anthropic is taking a vertical-focused approach in developing tools to change workflows in specific industries and shoring up its infrastructure needs through new partnerships.

Like its release for healthcare and legal, Claude’s finance agents will tackle tasks specific to the industry, such as creating pitchbooks for client meetings, reviewing transcripts and filings, creating financial models and analyses and reviewing valuations. The agents will work in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Work and Outlook with plugins, Anthropic said.

AI providers are facing bottlenecks with the infrastructure, compute and investment resources needed to keep up with demand. Most enterprise companies reported in a recent Deloitte report that they plan to triple their AI infrastructure budgets by 2028. Last month, Anthropic signed new agreements with Google and Broadcom to add multiple gigawatts of tensor processing units capacity starting in 2027 as customer demand accelerates.

Anthropic’s formation of an AI services company with private equity investors more closely ties the relationship between Wall Street and AI. The new company is also backed by a collection of asset managers.

The newly formed and yet-to-be-named venture will pair Claude models with a network of mid-sized, investor-owned companies, embedding engineers into various aspects of their workflows or building custom tools. The company is positioning itself to gain an edge in middle-market adoption of the technology, as it aims to become a go-to model in private and public sectors.

“Our partnerships with the world’s leading systems integrators are central to how Claude reaches large enterprises,” Rao said in a statement.

OpenAI is reportedly pursuing a similar venture to create new channels for enterprise AI deals, Bloomberg reported, raising $4 billion from investors against a $10 billion valuation.
