Accenture musters 1K forward deployed engineers to staff Gemini Enterprise business group

Dive Brief:

  • Accenture rolled out a Gemini Enterprise business group with the goal of adding 1,000 forward deployed engineers to help clients overcome AI adoption hurdles, the consulting firm and global systems integrator said in a Tuesday announcement.
  • The new unit sits within Accenture’s larger Google Business Group, which currently has nearly 50,000 professionals trained in the hyperscaler’s technology. The company aims to have 20,000 Google Cloud certified individuals in the next year, in addition to the FDEs, according to Gemini Enterprise Business Group Lead Chetna Sehgal.
  • “Enterprises need true value from AI — and they’re stuck,” Sehgal told Channel Dive. “They’re under pressure to deploy agentic AI at production scale, and they need architecture, the governance and co-engineered solutions.”

Dive Insight:

FDEs have fast become synonymous with a massive tech industry push to clear a pathway for AI deployments. As businesses grapple with data disorder, poorly integrated legacy systems and a lack of AI talent, vendors are working with consultants to mobilize squads of engineers trained to deliver adoption guidance and support.

Accenture isn’t new to the game. Earlier this year, the company partnered with Microsoft to launch an AI-focused FDE practice. Accenture also forged an alliance with OpenAI to embed FDEs in its government-focused business unit and sent engineers to Anthropic for training as part of a Claude deployment initiative launched in December.

FDEs are only one pillar of Accenture’s Google Cloud talent strategy, according to Sehgal .

“We’ve got FDEs, people with industry skills, functional skills and change management expertise,” Sehgal said.

Accenture’s Gemini deployment teams will be credentialed by Google Cloud as part of an FDE certification protocol, according to Accenture Google Business Group Global Lead Scott Alfieri.

The two companies have links that extend beyond the Gemini Enterprise initiative. Accenture’s data estate rests in Google Cloud Platform infrastructure and the hyperscaler’s parent company Alphabet leaned on Accenture for a Gemini Agent designed to manage an NFL Sunday Ticket demand surge on its YouTube streaming service.

“That is not a one-off arrangement, but it’s a robust endorsement, and we’re pretty excited about that,” Sehgal said.

Google has also been busy on the FDE front. The tech giant put out a call for AI deployment engineers in May. “If you are a builder who wants to work on the world’s largest stages and be at the center of the agentic era — join us,” Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said on LinkedIn.
