NetApp’s move to integrate its storage technology to run natively on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure follows similar moves it previously made with the introduction of Amazon FSx for NetApp Ontap for AWS cloud environments, Azure NetApp Files for Azure environments, and NetApp Cloud Volumes for Google Cloud Platform environments.
NetApp Tuesday unveiled a new integration with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure that makes NetApp’s storage technology run natively on OCI.
The new integration marks the fourth hyperscaler to make NetApp’s advanced storage capabilities available natively, following similar moves the company previously made with the introduction of Amazon FSx for NetApp Ontap for Amazon Web Services cloud environments, Azure NetApp Files for Azure environments, and NetApp Cloud Volumes for Google Cloud Platform environments.
The new offering, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure NetApp Storage Service, makes NetApp’s Ontap storage operating system run directly in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, very similar to the company’s existing capabilities in Microsoft Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud, said Jeff Baxter, NetApp’s vice president of technical marketing.

The new offering, unveiled at this week’s NetApp Insight 2026 conference in Las Vegas, is slated to be available within the next 12 months, Baxter told CRN.
Pravjit Tiwana, senior vice president and general manager of cloud storage at NetApp, said during a pre-Insight press conference that his company’s storage technology has been operating natively in AWS, Microsoft, and Google, and will now do the same in Oracle.
“We are the first-party service in this thing,” Tiwana said. “It is not just some marketplace offering or anything. We are integrating into the Oracle stack from the data plane and control plane perspective. We already have customers who are using it for a wide number of use cases when they lift and shift their applications. If you build your applications on Ontap on-prem, you can just take it to the cloud like what we have seen in the other three hyperscalers now. You don’t have to amend your applications in any shape or form. It just works as it is.”
NetApp is seeing a lot of interest from its customers in Oracle Cloud, Tiwana said.
“We have a very large footprint of customers who use Oracle as a database and other forms of databases too,” he said. “This is fully Ontap-powered storage. Completely fully managed Ontap now will be available in Oracle Cloud.”
One of the key value propositions of NetApp is its unified storage, which runs file, block, and object data on the same storage system, Tiwana said.
“We provide that unified approach, be it NFS or SMB for file or NVMe over TCP for block or Amazon S3 APIs for object,” he said. “Customers will get that unified offering in Oracle Cloud also now.”
Getting NetApp storage to run natively in Oracle Cloud is an exciting move, said Dave Van Hoy, president and founder of Advanced Systems Group, an Emeryville, Calif.-based solution provider and NetApp channel partner.
Getting third-party file systems and tools into Oracle Cloud is an important part of Oracle’s strategy and an important move for channel partners and customers, Van Hoy told CRN.
“It’s all good for us, especially right now in a time where hardware pricing is through the roof, crazy pricing,” he said. “Being able to sell file system and tools in public clouds is a very important part of the business.”
The new partnership is good for both NetApp and Oracle as well as their channel partners, said Ned Engelke, chief technology officer at Evotek, a San Diego-based solution provider and NetApp channel partner.
“Oracle has a very aggressive sales effort,” Engelke told CRN. “All the applications they can get on Oracle is probably good for both Oracle and NetApp. There’s no reason for them to have a popular platform that they don’t support.”
