As search moves beyond conventional results pages, Rank Math expects brands to measure how often they appear in AI-generated answers alongside rankings, traffic, and clicks.
GURUGRAM, India, Oct. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Rank Math, the WordPress SEO plugin used by website owners and marketers worldwide, predicts that AI visibility will become a standard part of SEO reporting in 2027 as more consumers turn to AI-generated answers to find information, products, and businesses.
For years, SEO performance has largely been measured through rankings, impressions, clicks, and organic traffic. Rank Math says that model is beginning to expand as brands increasingly need to know whether they are being mentioned, cited, or recommended inside AI-generated responses.
The shift is already visible in Google’s own reporting.
In June 2026, Google introduced dedicated Generative AI performance reports in Search Console, giving website owners separate visibility data for AI Overviews, AI Mode, and generative AI features in Discover. Google completed the worldwide rollout on August 31. [1]
Rank Math believes that the move is an important signal for the wider SEO industry. When search platforms begin separating AI visibility from conventional search performance, businesses and agencies are likely to follow.
Consumer behavior is moving in the same direction.
A 2026 Pew Research Center survey found that 42% of U.S. adults use AI chatbots to search for information, making information search the most commonly reported use of AI chatbots in the study. [2]
That creates a new measurement problem for marketers. A business may still rank well in conventional Google results while appearing rarely in responses generated by ChatGPT or other AI platforms. Conversely, a brand may be cited regularly in AI answers without those appearances being reflected clearly in its traditional keyword rankings.
Uzair Nazeer, COO of Rank Math, said:
“Rankings and traffic are not going away, but they are no longer the complete picture of search visibility.
“If customers are asking AI platforms which product to buy, which company to use, or where to find information, brands need to know whether they are part of those answers. We expect that to become a normal part of SEO reporting during 2027.”
Rank Math has already begun integrating that measurement into its SEO platform through AI Visibility, which tracks how brands and products appear in AI-generated responses.
Rather than assigning visibility solely according to a webpage’s position in a list of search results, the tool monitors factors including brand mentions, citations, sentiment, and position within AI answers. It can also show competing brands appearing for the same queries. [3]
That reflects a broader change in what marketers may eventually define as a successful search result.
A traditional SEO report might ask whether a website ranks in the top three positions for an important keyword. An AI-focused report may increasingly ask whether the brand was mentioned at all, whether its website was cited as a source, how prominently it appeared, and which competitors were recommended instead.
Rank Math expects the two forms of measurement to sit alongside one another rather than AI visibility replacing established SEO metrics.
Uzair added:
“Businesses still need rankings, clicks, and organic traffic. The difference is that there is now another layer to measure.
“By this time next year, we expect more SEO reports to include some form of AI visibility alongside the metrics marketers have relied on for years.”
