AWS confirmed it is making the “difficult business decision” of laying off employees inside the $117 billion global cloud market share leader.

Amazon said several groups within AWS will be impacted by the layoffs, although the company did not specify which groups are impacted or how many AWS employees will be terminated.
“These decisions are necessary as we continue to invest, hire, and optimize resources to deliver innovation for our customers,” Amazon said. “We didn’t make these decisions lightly, and we’re committed to supporting the employees throughout their transition.”

According to a report from Reuters, the layoffs will impact at least hundreds of jobs at the Seattle-based cloud titan.
On LinkedIn today, AWS’ Sarah Storelli said some of her colleagues were impacted by the layoffs.
“Although I am not impacted by today’s layoffs at AWS, some of my colleagues are,” said Storelli, senior executive communications and customer programs marketing leader. “For all impacted, please let me know how I can be of help and support to you on your career. … For anyone hiring, AWS attracts and employs some of the best and brightest minds who have a relentless, intrinsic drive to deliver results with impact.”
CRN saw several AWS employees posting on LinkedIn about being laid off, which included positions in marketing.
AWS generated $29.3 billion in sales during the first quarter of 2025, up 17 percent year over year. The company currently has an annual revenue run rate of $117 billion.
AWS won 29 percent share of the global cloud infrastructure services market in Q1 2025, followed by Microsoft at 22 percent share, then Google Cloud at 12 percent share.
