The launch makes Blackpoint Cyber ‘the first company to do full-on managed security posture plus MDR,’ CEO Jon Murchison tells CRN.

Blackpoint Cyber announced what it’s calling a “unified security posture and response” offering Monday with the launch of its new CompassOne platform.

In an interview with CRN, Blackpoint Cyber Founder and CEO Jon Murchison said the platform builds on the company’s MSP-focused managed detection and response (MDR) offering, with new features for security posture rating and cloud posture along with revamped capabilities for existing tools.

“We’re going to be the first company to do full-on managed security posture plus MDR,” Murchison said.

The debut of Blackpoint Cyber’s CompassOne platform came in connection with RSA Conference 2025, which got underway Monday in San Francisco.

What follows are five key things to know on the new Blackpoint Cyber CompassOne platform.

Unified Security Platform

CompassOne aims to provide greater unification of security functionality by bringing together both capabilities for preemptive security with detection and response, Murchison said.

For MSPs, this is crucial given the need to reduce the amount of complexity — and the number of tools — that they must juggle in order to secure customers, he said.

While many of the core capabilities of CompassOne have been available previously from Blackpoint, the offerings are now more “tightly integrated” on the platform to make life easier for MSPs and improve security outcomes, according to Murchison.

Ultimately, CompassOne “allows MSPs to have a full dashboard view of where their customers sit in the attack surface reduction journey,” he said.

Security Posture Rating

One net-new capability that Blackpoint Cyber will introduce with CompassOne is its security posture rating system, Murchison said.

The letter-grade rating system will assess organization’s using key cybersecurity frameworks and will demonstrate the organization’s progress over time on achieving security maturity and compliance, according to Blackpoint.

“This posture rating is going to give MSPs a 360-degree view of both themselves, their security attack surface view, as well as their customer base,” Murchison said.

Cloud Posture Management

Additional net-new capabilities on CompassOne include cloud posture management, which focuses on Microsoft 365, he said.

Blackpoint’s cloud posture management tool provides continuous monitoring for Microsoft 365 security misconfigurations, and can enable the issues to be fixed prior to exploitation in a cyberattack, the company said.

Revamped Tool Capabilities

Blackpoint Cyber has also enhanced a number of existing capabilities with the debut of CompassOne, including when it comes to application control and vulnerability scanning.

“We’ve completely revamped our configuration and deployment of application control and how the [security operations center] monitors it,” Murchison said. “We’ve completely revamped in our external vulnerability scanning, the scheduling of that, the internal vulnerability reporting and management.”

Additionally, Blackpoint’s LogIC (Logging with Integrated Compliance) product has also been “completely revamped,” he said.

Expanded Standard Capabilities

Meanwhile, Blackpoint is adding a new bundle option with affordable pricing, Essentials, while expanding the capabilities available on its Standard bundle, according to Murchison.

The Standard bundle is now expanded as well, with enhancements including the addition of Microsoft 365 posture management.

Additionally, the Standard bundle will now enable MSPs to meet requirements for logging and analysis of the logs, as well as reporting for compliance purposes, Murchison said.
