Google’s $32B Wiz Deal To Be Decided By EU In February

Google’s blockbuster $32 billion acquisition of Wiz is currently being reviewed by the European Commission with a February deadline on whether or not to approve the deal.

The fate of Google’s largest acquisition in its history, the $32 billion blockbuster purchase of cybersecurity star Wiz, is currently being reviewed by the European Union’s competition enforcer, the European Commission.

If the deal is blocked by regulators, Google could be forced to pay Wiz a $3.2 billion breakup fee.

The European Commission will decide by Feb. 10, 2026, on whether to approve the acquisition or possibly demand a full-scale investigation on the deal, according to a new filing on the European Commission website.

Google plans to integrate Israel-based Wiz into its $61 billion cloud computing, AI and collaboration business unit Google Cloud.

The goal is to boost Mountain View, Calif.-based Google Cloud’s cybersecurity technologies and capabilities around multi-cloud systems.

“[Wiz] will help spur the adoption of multi-cloud cybersecurity, the use of multi-cloud, and competition and growth in cloud computing,” said Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian last year when the deal was announced.

Google-Wiz Deal Passes US DOJ Scrutiny

In November, the acquisition between Google and Wiz cleared the U.S. Justice Department antitrust review.

However, the European Commission now has the power to either approve the deal or demand concessions during the preliminary review. The Commission also has the option to open a full investigation if it has major concerns.

Google’s $32 billion purchase of the cybersecurity startup would be the largest acquisition in its history.

In 2022, Google pulled the trigger on one of its biggest acquisitions ever with the purchase of threat intelligence security standout Mandiant for $5.4 billion.

The merged Google-Wiz company will look to help customers create a stronger foundation for cloud security with a portfolio including a unified security platform that combines Wiz’s Cloud Security Platform with Google Security Operations.

“We are aiming to provide customers with better security for enterprise systems and lower the cost of maintaining a strong security posture across their on-premises and multi-cloud environments,” said Kurian last year.
