The industry’s first definitive 6G forecast

CAMPBELL, Calif., Feb. 10, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Mobile Experts released its shipment and revenue forecasts today, highlighting the major change that is happening in the mobile infrastructure market. As the mobile industry’s leading analyst firm, Mobile Experts has been able to accurately predict ALL of the major changes to the mobile market since 2007.

This week, the new forecasts reveal a major shift in spending on mobile infrastructure from hardware to software, as well as a step away from the major waves of spending with every “G”. The new Macro and Massive MIMO Base Station forecast shows declines in radio shipment numbers through 2028, and renewed shipments in 2029/2030 but with surprising characteristics.

At the same time, the RAN Revenue and Market Share report released this week shows flat revenue in the mobile infrastructure game, despite declining hardware shipments. The difference comes from software upgrades that will become the critical –and most profitable—aspect of the mobile market.

“The glory days of automatic growth are over,” commented Joe Madden, Principal Analyst at Mobile Experts. “Now, the operators will need to fight for growth by adapting their networks, serving enterprises with tailored solutions, and handling capacity growth more surgically. We have mapped out the future based on intimate modeling exercises with operators and some deep-dive technical analysis.”

The two new reports paint a foundational picture of the basic strata of the mobile market. Together, the shipment and revenue outlook for the mobile industry illustrate the ways in which Open RAN, Virtual RAN, Edge Computing, Network Slicing, and many other aspects of the mobile market will evolve.

Subscribers to Macro and Massive MIMO Base Station Transceivers 2025 will receive:

  • Full access to the 58-page Macro and Massive MIMO Base Station report;

  • Informed analysis of new 5G/6G spectrum and timing for regional deployment;
  • Details of the power levels, MIMO layers, and OEM market shares; and
  • Access to the analysts behind the reports.

  • A clear listing of the revenue for the top 33 suppliers in mobile radio infrastructure;
  • Insightful analysis of the trend from hardware to software in the RAN market;
  • Illustrations of how Private Cellular will grow to become a significant fraction of the mobile radio market;
  • Access to the analysts behind the reports.
