GUIYANG, China, April 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — In the heart of central Guizhou, the Guian New Area, an emerging tech hub tied to China’s national development strategy, is undergoing rapid transformation. Data flows at scale while cutting-edge technologies are gaining momentum. Smart and efficient living is becoming the norm. The Guian Encounters series explores this dynamic region, offering a closer look at Guizhou’s journey toward Chinese-style modernization. One such story begins inside a rather extraordinary factory.

This super server room in Guizhou can “breathe”!

Have you ever wondered where a line of text or an image before your eyes comes from?

Today, join Tatiana, a foreign anchor from Discover Guizhou, to explore a “super server room” nestled amidst green mountains and clear waters — the China Mobile (Guiyang) Data Center.

Stepping into the data center, a sleek silver-gray building with a strong technological aesthetic catches the eye. This is currently the largest renovated single-warehouse data center in China — the “Xinghe Data Center.” Over 3,000 cabinets stand in orderly rows, capable of hosting more than 30,000 servers and providing modular, precise intelligent computing, general computing, and storage services. Data from the eastern regions is stored here, AI models are trained here, movies are rendered here…And what’s even more incredible is that this building can “breathe.”

The data center employs a new air conditioning system — magnetic levitation outdoor air conditioning units. It can automatically adjust based on the outdoor environment, featuring an added cooling tower that creates a water curtain for evaporative heat absorption. The core components of the compressor can levitate on magnetic field, enabling frictionless movement, which reduces system wear, extends service life, and pushes the energy efficiency ratio to an exceptional 1.196, saving energy while lowering both operational and user costs. “When the temperature drops below 14 degrees Celsius, the cooling system can automatically activate a free cooling mode without compressor refrigeration,” explains Zhang Lili, a guide at the China Mobile (Guiyang) Intelligent Computing Center. This mode is available for nearly half of the year, saving an amount of electricity equivalent to the total annual consumption of 15,000 households.

As the first telecom operator to establish itself in Gui’an New District, Guizhou Province, the China Mobile (Guiyang) Data Center has attracted 30 institutions, including Huawei and Alibaba, making it one of the key nodes in the National Integrated Computing Network National (Guizhou) hub. Currently, the data center’s total computing power reaches about 700P, which is roughly equivalent to the total computing effort of China’s entire population of 1.4 billion people, each performing a simple addition per second continuously for about 16 years.

The efficient operation of the data center also relies on the world’s first 400G computing power channel deployed by China Mobile. Data transmission over 2,800 kilometers —roughly the distance from Guiyang to Singapore —takes only 14 milliseconds. This computing power “highway” has greatly enriched innovative applications of the data center’s services, such as “Eastern Data, Western Storage,” “Eastern Data, Western Rendering,” and “Eastern Data, Western Training.”

In recent years, Guizhou has accelerated its efforts to build a nationwide computing power support base. The number of major data centers under construction or in operation across the province has grown from 7 in 2020 to 50, with total computing power scale expected to reach around 150 EFLOPS by the end of this year. Within this, intelligent computing accounts for over 97%, marking a leap from nothing to rapid advancement. The Gui’an data center cluster has become one of the regions in China with the strongest intelligent computing capabilities and the most abundant intelligent computing resources. “Build computing power in Guizhou, use computing power in Guizhou” has become an industry consensus, constructing a solid foundation for the high-quality development of the province’s digital economy.

Thanks to its unique climate conditions, energy advantages, and policy incentives, Guizhou — once described as a place “without three miles of flat land” — is reshaping its landscape with digital genes, transforming into a “super hub” and “super brain” of the digital world. Surging computing power is accelerating the activation of digital potential across all industries, unleashing boundless energy.

You may have never set foot in Guizhou, but every day you are taking a “walk in the cloud” right here.
