AWS Rejects AI Model Monopoly, Backs OpenAI And Anthropic Models; Channel Chief Says No ‘One Model To Rule Them All’

‘We have over a hundred models available on Amazon Bedrock. And the thing that we have found is that there isn’t one model to rule them all,’ says AWS worldwide channel chief Ruba Borno.

There will be no single AI model provider that monopolizes the LLM market as Amazon Web Services says it will strive to maintain an open model strategy for both AI superstars Anthropic and OpenAI.

“We have over a hundred models available on Amazon Bedrock. And the thing that we have found is that there isn’t one model to rule them all,” Ruba Borno, AWS worldwide channel chief, tells CRN.

The Seattle-based $169 billion cloud market share leader and AI giant plans to continue its strategy of partnering closely with both OpenAI and Anthropic, not necessarily picking one over the other.

“We will see examples where customers want to optimize for speed or they want to optimize for efficiency and reducing cost. And it’s different by the type of work that’s taking place,” Borno said. “Maybe it’s coding environments versus some business insights that are needed. We’ve seen that different models can deliver different output based on what the customer needs.”

AWS is currently “co-selling together to customers” with both OpenAI and Anthropic alongside AWS channel partners, she added.

“Anthropic and OpenAI are key partners to us,” Borno said.

Innovative Solutions, an AWS Premier Partner, says this open model strategy is creating huge opportunities for partners to migrate AI models to AWS.

“We’re now going to be migrating customers in droves to AWS,” said Innovative Solutions CEO Justin Copie.

“When you look at AWS, they’re open to all these models running on Bedrock. We’ve really created a whole other business inside our business, which is actually migrating these models to AWS,” Copie said. “One year ago, I don’t know if I would have told you that was going to be part of our strategy.”

Anthropic and OpenAI Models Available On Amazon Bedrock

AWS has formed tight partnerships with both OpenAI and Anthropic with a focus on making their AI models easily available on its AWS platforms such as Amazon Bedrock.

OpenAI models on Bedrock currently include a slew of GPT models, including GPT-6Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol, GPT-6 Luna, GPT-5.6 Terra, GPT OSS, as well as Daybreak Red and Blue.

Anthropic models on Bedrock include Claude Haiku 5.5, Claude Sonnet 5.5, Claude Opus 5.5, Claude Fable 5.1, Claude Mythos 5.1 and other versions of those models.

“We have made available over a hundred models on Amazon Bedrock, including Anthropic’s models and OpenAI’s models, as well as many others,” said Borno.

“The reason that we’re driving that is because of the focus on what customers need, the right model at the right time, for the right use cases,” she said. “[Anthropic and OpenAI] are delivering tremendous value.”

This year, AWS unveiled it will invest $50 billion in OpenAI. Meanwhile, Anthropic has committed $100 billion to secure AWS capacity.

‘AWS Didn’t Want To Force A Customer Into A Model’

Innovative Solutions CEO Copie said many AI models are now “good enough” that customers can pick and choose the best model for the specific business use case.

“AWS didn’t want to force a customer into a model,” said Copie.

“So all the models have mostly become smart enough such that, now, it’s a business decision. It’s not about the science of it anymore or which model is smarter,” Copie said. “AWS is thinking always a year or two ahead. and they got this right.”

AWS’ strategy of making hundreds of models from various vendors available on AWS infrastructure and platform, including top providers Anthropic and OpenAI, is the correct vision for the market, he said.

“AWS knew that model choice, it’s not as much of a menu, it’s more of a strategy for customers today. The winners, they’re not going to be loyal to one logo or another. They’re going to be loyal to the actual workload,” said Copie.

Copie is bullish about Innovative Solutions’ growing practice of migrating AI models to AWS.

“What AWS has done is they’ve really created this nice open framework within Bedrock for us to be able to do that, but still give customers model choice, and I think that’s the future,” he said.

AWS’ $169B Run Rate; Highest Growth In 18 Quarters

AWS’ AI and cloud strategy appears to be working.

The company generated $42.2 billion in revenue during the second quarter of 2026, representing an increase of 37 percent year over year.

This marked AWS’ highest growth rate in 18 quarters.

The Seattle-based cloud giant now has an annual run rate of $169 billion.

“We absolutely believe in model choice,” said Borno. “So we’re really excited about being able to continue to have one of the most diverse portfolios of models available through our products, with Anthropic and OpenAI being key model providers in that network.”
