Google’s $32B Wiz Buy Gets EU Approval; Customers ‘Have Credible Alternatives’ Say Regulators

‘Google stands behind Amazon and Microsoft in terms of market shares in cloud infrastructure, and our assessment confirmed that customers will continue to have credible alternatives and the ability to switch providers,’ says European Union antitrust leader Teresa Ribera in a statement Tuesday.

Google is one step closer to buying cybersecurity star Wiz after the European Union Tuesday approved the $32 billion megadeal.

“Google stands behind Amazon and Microsoft in terms of market shares in cloud infrastructure, and our assessment confirmed that customers will continue to have credible alternatives and the ability to switch providers,” said EU antitrust chief Teresa Ribera in a statement Tuesday.

The European Commission said any data acquired by Google via the Wiz deal is not commercially sensitive and can also be assessed by other security software companies.

The EU halted the merger last year in order for its European Commission to review the blockbuster deal around potential antitrust and anti-competition issues in Europe.

The decision allows Mountain View, Calif.-based Google to avoid a more in-depth EU investigation, which could have delayed the deal for months.

Google Wiz Deal To Likely Close In 2026

The EU’s decision Tuesday to approve the deal means that Google will continue its intention of closing the deal later this year.

The U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission approved the deal in 2025.

The goal of buying Israel-based cybersecurity firm Wiz is to boost Google Cloud’s cybersecurity technologies and capabilities around multi-cloud systems.

“[Wiz] will help spur the adoption of multi-cloud cybersecurity, the use of multi-cloud, and competition and growth in cloud computing,” said Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian last year when the deal was announced.

Kurian said the merged Google-Wiz company will help customers create a stronger foundation for cloud security with a portfolio including a unified security platform that combines Wiz’s Cloud Security Platform with Google Security Operations.

“We are aiming to provide customers with better security for enterprise systems and lower the cost of maintaining a strong security posture across their on-premises and multi-cloud environments,” said Kurian in 2025.
