‘Intersect will help us expand capacity, operate more nimbly in building new power generation in lockstep with new data center load, and reimagine energy solutions to drive US innovation and leadership,’ says Google CEO Sundar Pichai.

Google’s parent company Alphabet unveiled plans Monday to acquire data center and energy infrastructure provider Intersect for a whopping $4.75 billion in cash, as Google continues to invest tens of billions of dollars in global data center expansion.

Google’s acquisition of Intersect aims to boost the IT giant’s data center footprint and computing capacity, according to Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai.

“Intersect will help us expand capacity, operate more nimbly in building new power generation in lockstep with new data center load, and reimagine energy solutions to drive US innovation and leadership,” said Pichai in a statement.

San Francisco-based Intersect currently has $15 billion of assets in operation or under construction across America.

The acquisition will immediately enable more data center and computing capacity for Google’s ever-growing infrastructure, while also accelerating energy development and AI innovation.

“Modern infrastructure is the linchpin of American competitiveness in AI,” said Intersect CEO and founder Sheldon Kimber in a statement. “We share Google’s conviction that energy innovation and community investment are the pillars of what must come next.”

Google’s $4.75 billion deal to acquire Intersect is expected to close in the first half of 2026.

Google’s Plan To Acquire Intersect: Merger Details

Google plans to acquire Intersect’s team and multiple gigawatts of energy and data center projects in development, or under construction.

Intersect will remain and operate as an independent company, Alphabet said, under the Intersect brand.

Google said Intersect will partner closely with Google’s technical infrastructure team, continuing work on in-development, and new projects. This includes the companies’ announced co-located data center and power site, under construction in Haskell County, Texas.

Once the deal is closed, Intersect will explore emerging technologies to increase and diversify energy supply, while supporting Google’s U.S. data center investments to meet its cloud customer demand.

Some Intersect Assets Will Not Be Part Of Deal

Google said Intersect’s existing operating assets in Texas, and its operating and in-development assets in California, will not be part of the acquisition.

Those assets will continue to operate as an independent company, supported by existing investors. Intersect said it expects a seamless transition and service continuity for customers of those assets.

“Intersect has always been focused on bringing innovation to the industry and we look forward to accelerating at scale as part of Google,” said Intersect CEO Kimber.
