Planned work will focus on native builds, sustainable build-and-test infrastructure, and performance optimization for the open-source developer community
PALO ALTO, Calif., Sept. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Open Source Vision Foundation (OSVF), the nonprofit organization that operates OpenCV, today announced plans to enhance OpenCV support for Windows on Snapdragon®. As part of this effort, OSVF is working with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc to help make it easier for developers to build, test, optimize, and deploy computer vision applications natively on Windows devices powered by Snapdragon X Series processors.
The project will focus on native OpenCV binaries for Windows on Snapdragon, automated build-and-test infrastructure to ensure quality at scale, specific software optimizes for better performance, and additional compatibility work to resolve key software dependencies within OpenCV. Together, these improvements are intended to create a more performant and reliable path from experimentation to deployment while establishing a sustainable release process for the OpenCV community targeting Windows on Snapdragon.

The work is expected to progress from experimental native builds toward validated releases intended for distribution through familiar open-source channels. Improvements will proceed through OpenCV’s established review and testing processes, with progress and availability shared as milestones are completed.
