Location Sharing, offline onX navigation, and onX SOS help hunters stay connected, navigate beyond cell service, and prepare for emergencies

MISSOULA, Mont., Oct. 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — onX Hunt, the leading navigation app for hunters, has expanded its suite of safety and navigation tools this season to help hunters explore with confidence, stay connected with their group, and access professional support in an emergency. Recent additions and updates include Location Sharing, offline onX Navigation, and onX SOS, a separate $49.99-per-year add-on available to onX Hunt members on iOS and Android.

“Hunters have been clear about what they need in the field: an easier way to coordinate with their group, dependable navigation beyond cell service, and a backup plan when something goes wrong,” said Cliff Cancelosi, Senior Vice President of onX Hunt. “We built these tools around those real-world situations so hunters can feel more prepared throughout their trip.”

Split up and Stay Connected with Location Sharing

New for this season, Location Sharing lets hunters see their party’s live locations together on one map. A paid onX Hunt member can start or join a session and invite up to nine others, so the group can see where everyone is, adjust meeting points, and regroup when plans change. Location Sharing requires a data connection (cellular, Wi-Fi, or satellite service with a compatible data plan).

Locations update every five seconds. If someone drops a signal, their last known location stays pinned on the map with a timestamp until they’re back in coverage. Participants can join or leave at any time, and onX deletes their location data as soon as they do; all session data is deleted when the session ends. Before a trip, hunters can use the Cell Coverage Map Layer to identify areas where service may be limited.

Stay on route beyond cell service with Offline onX Navigation

A recent onX analysis found that more than 646 million acres—roughly 28% of the U.S. land area—lack cellular coverage. Now available on both iOS and Android, offline onX Navigation helps hunters stay on route when cell service drops by calculating routes and reroutes entirely on-device within a downloaded Offline Map. Hunters can download the relevant area before a trip, then start or adjust navigation after leaving service, and follow turn by turn directions. A network connection is required if the route extends beyond the downloaded map boundary.

Get professional help when the unexpected happens with onX SOS

onX SOS, powered by Overwatch x Rescue, gives hunters a professional backup plan when the unexpected happens. The separate $49.99-per-year add-on connects subscribers with a trained coordinator and provides financial coverage for eligible rescue and evacuation costs, with no claims process, deductible, or unexpected rescue bills.

When activated, onX SOS prepares an SMS containing the user’s GPS coordinates and account information and sends it through cellular or supported satellite messaging to Overwatch x Rescue’s 24/7 Crisis Response Center. A trained coordinator begins two-way communication, manages the response, and stays engaged until help arrives.

Overwatch x Rescue is a service of FocusPoint International, which has more than 15 years of emergency response experience and has coordinated more than 15,000 rescues across more than 220 countries and territories. For more information on onX SOS, visit onxmaps.com/sos.

Availability

  • Offline turn-by-turn navigation is available on current versions of onX Hunt for iOS and Android. Android customers should update to version 26.28 or later.
  • Location Sharing is available to all paid onX Hunt members.
  • onX SOS is available in onX Hunt on iOS and Android and can be purchased at any membership tier. It requires a mobile device with cellular or supported satellite SMS capability.
